Top 10 classroom rules for 3rd graders With Example

Ashley Nichols at The Polka Dot Patch created the most adorable class rules for Whole Brain Teaching and they were the first thing I hung in my classroom when I got hooked! I substituted my Rule #3 to her newer version (Respect others, respect yourself, and respect your school).

Here are my motions~ we use both hands for each rule: 

Rule #1: Listen (point to your ears) when your teacher (kids point to me) is talking (move hands together and apart like a mouth).

Rule #2: Follow directions quickly. (As we say this, we snap out fingers along with each word and say the rule quickly.)

Rule #3: Respect others (point out), respect yourself (point to yourself), and respect your school (point to the ground).

Rule #4: Raise your hand (raise your right hand) to speak (make moving mouth motion) or stand use index and middle finger to ‘walk’).

Rule #5: Be safe (hug yourself), be kind (cover your heart with both hands), be honest (place right hand up, like you were about to testify). 

I have the kids practice these each morning before we begin our Morning Meeting. I used to lead it, but I now leave that up to the Morning Meeting Leader and I do it along with them.

  We have as a

  following consequences will be given:1) A verbal warning for inappropriate behavior or broken rule. 
  2) Students card will be changed to the yellow if behavior does not
  improve once verbal warning has been issued. 
  3) Student’s card will be changed to the red if behavior continues.
  Student will face consequences appropriate for the behavior.
  4) If behavior continues a phone call home will be made.Behavior Charts are sent home at the end of every week with your
  signature required. I believe this is a great tool of communication between
  school and home to insure parents are aware of their student’s behavior at
  school. Please be sure to review this chart with your child to discuss their
  behavior in class. Excellent behavior as well as inappropriate behavior
  deserves to be recognized.
