Richard “Sleepy” Floyd

Richard “Sleepy” Floyd is a drummer, composer, and producer known for his versatility and high level of musicianship. Currently residing in Indianapolis, his 24-year music playing career spans several genres including jazz, rock, hip-hop, and gospel, and Sleepy has performed, recorded, and shared the stage with various artists across several genres.  But ultimately, a love for hip-hop, jazz, and beat production led to co-founding The Native Sun live hip-hop collective.  Richard recently curated and produced the 2021 Indy Jazz Festival, a multi-day line-up of Indianapolis, regional, and national performing artists.

About the Artists:

Native Sun

Native Sun is Indy’s premier Hip Hop Band. Native Sun is comprised of band members Brandon Meeks (bass), Richard “Sleepy” Floyd (drums) and B Young (emcee) who intertwine gospel, rock, electronic, jazz and soul within the context of hip hop. Native Sun infuses traditional hip hop elements (compelling lyricism, dusty samples, dope beats) and the versatility of live instrumentation to create a new sound. Native Sun tours nationally and promoting their 2nd album, Never Be King.

DisTinct

DisTinct is an Indianapolis based Hip-hop artist. His sound is driven by is dedication to uniqueness. His unique melodic sound fused with his amazing word play is what sets him apart from the rest.  His concert on May 7 concert will feature songs from his latest album Nocturnal and some special guests.

Be On it

Be On It (aka B On It Productions) was formed in 2012. Birthed out of Indianapolis, Be On It was created to push the boundaries and limitations of music. Be On It covers a lot of musical ground and different genres from pop, rock, RnB, hip hop, trip hop, neo-soul, fusion, jazz, techno, country, christian, and experimental. The five band members work together as a “collective” to create interesting, thoughtful, and intentional music. The band consists of:  Joe C Elliott III (MD/Drums/Producer), Jesse Thompson (Bass/Guitar/Producer/Composer/Arranger/Writer/Lyricist), CJ Warfield (Keys/Composer/Producer), Terry Adams (Keys/Bass/Composer/Producer) and Alex Goldblatt  (Guitar/Arranger/Composer/Producer).

In 2014 Be On It was crowned the champion of a national competition called Strange Arrange. Strange Arrange is a competition put on my Soundtrack Entertainment, where the top 5 bands in the nation compete in Nashville TN. From that opportunity, Be On It has landed major opportunities to work with some of the industry’s top artist, such as Sony Music Videos or shooting a music video with PJ Morton (Maroon 5).

PsyWrn Simone

PsyWrn Simone is an Indianapolis-based vocalist, songwriter, lyricist, poet/spoken word artist, actor, and teaching artist.  Ashlee has a neo-soul music style with high powered vocals.  She was a 2021 Arts Council of Indianapolis featured Art & Soul Artist, is a teaching artist for Asante Art Institute and is a regular performer at the Jazz Kitchen.  AshLee recently made the decision to pursue her passion as a full-time practicing artist and her debut EP is currently in the works and set for release in Summer of 2022. 

Rob Dixon

Rob Dixon is a nationally recognized saxophonist and has worked with a wide variety of artists, from Illinois Jacquet to Ali from “A Tribe Called Quest.” In addition to working as a full-time performer, Mr. Dixon is one of the principal organizers, and also education director, for the Indy Jazz Fest. A graduate of Hampton University, he is also an alumnus of Indiana University. After completing the master’s program in Jazz Studies at IU, Mr. Dixon moved to New York City in 1996, establishing himself as a professional musician working with the Count Basie Band, Rufus Reid, The Ellington Band, composer Bill Lee (Spike Lee ’ s father), Illinois Jacquet, Jonah Jones, and the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra, as well as many others. He returned to Indianapolis in 2002 and started Triology (the first group to be signed by the Owl Studios record label). Recently, one of Mr. Dixon’s original compositions ( Soul Talk ) was featured in the major motion picture Big Stan.  

The Organ-nizers

The Organ-nizers are known for their smooth R&B, funk sounds presented in an improv jazzy way.  The band is comprised of saxophonist Hank Hankerson , Guitarist Robert Coleman, B3 man Johnny Dial & Drummer Ralph Hankerson.
